Madurese Maritime
The seafering of madura, the situated off the northeastern coast of java, are one of the maritim leeding groups in Indonesia archipelago. They have played a major role in indigenous shipping, and sice the second half of nineteenth centurie their importance in this field has been second only to that of the bugis and makassarese. With their strong maritim orientation and outwards economy, the coastals madurese contrast stronglywith the agricultural orientation of their neighbours, the Javanese and Balinese.
